Recently-merged global player retains 15 of its 19 rookies
Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) has confirmed an autumn retention score of 79%. From a September qualifying cohort of 19, the outfit confirmed 15 rookies were staying put.
The firm, which takes on around 40 trainees each year, confirmed five newly qualified (NQ) lawyers will join real estate, four are litigation bound, a further four will join finance and two to corporate. Out of the 15 new associates, one will qualify into BCLP’s Hong Kong office in real estate, and one further NQ will join the outfit’s finance team in Frankfurt.
Legal Cheek‘s Firms Most List shows that those sticking around will start on a salary of £70,000. This puts BCLP’s newest recruits on the same levels of cash as their peers at City firms including Addleshaw Goddard, CMS, Osborne Clarke and Pinsent Masons. Trainees at BCLP start on £40,000, rising to £45,000 in year two.
Commenting on today’s result, which is a marked improvement on the firm’s spring score of 64%, a BCLP spokesperson said:
“We are pleased that two qualifiers will join our overseas offices demonstrating the global opportunities available to our trainees. Our retention rate is 15% up from spring which reflects the increasingly strong talent of our trainees. Following the recent merger we aim to increase our attractiveness and brand in order to continue hiring the very best talent.”
News of the firm’s autumn score comes just months after it officially formed through a transatlantic tie-up between City outfit Berwin Leighton Paisner and US law firm Bryan Cave. This created a new global outfit boasting around 1,600 lawyers across 32 offices in 11 different countries.
